A rock song with some twists. Inspired by bands like U2, Muse and The Cranberries. The lyrics are about how you can become a man, even if you do not follow the usual roads to get there.
The song started with a drum pattern in my head, that I ended up using only for the intro. The extended chords for the verse were something I had been playing around with for a while. The lyrics came to me, when I was thinking about how some people are bullying others, claiming they only know what a man is. But what actually makes a man?
Here’s the story of a child
Watching the wind moving the leaves
His mother would park him, ‘neath the trees
He’d look up and be happy for a while
But soon they moved along
As they did, on and on
Every single friend he had
Faded into memories so sad!
They kept on running, but there was no escape
His laugh and his smile, slowly disappeared
The sunshine was shadowed, by the never-ending fight
They called it a marriage, but was that really right?
He tried to find some solid ground
To stand on, while he was growing up
But every time he thought the pain would stop
He was pushed aside and tumbled down
From a child to a man
You may try the best you can
But the only way to succeed
Is to follow the rules they conceive
There’s no understanding, if you don’t adhere to the rules
If you disobey, you’re out and ridiculed
Why do you refuse, to be like everyone else?
It’s for you own good, we’re just trying to help..
This is where the story ends
Did the child grow up at last?
I don't think he ever will
But to me he’s still a man
He’s still a man
He’s a man
A man
