A song about how your life is a puzzle and how you sometimes struggle to find the pieces that fit together.
A song from 2007 that I recorded at the Ziggophon Studio with my friend Knud Erik Jensen. I had lost all copies of this song, but Knud managed to find it and fix it up with new sampled instruments and his magic touch.
Pieces of me – left on the trail.
Pieces of me – left on the trail.
Pieces of me – left on the trail.
Pieces of me – yeah, pieces of me.
Here’s a piece with half of your smile.
I tried so hard to push it in place.
It just never seemed - to fit in anywhere.
Here’s a piece with all of my hopes.
I thought I knew were that would go.
But now I don't know – maybe it’s upside down.
Pieces of me……
Perfecting the image - picking up the pieces.
The truth is – there never was, a puzzle to work on.
All these fragments don’t fit together and they were not meant to.
Scratching the surface only releases the smell
Of the animal - we all carry inside,
All that we do, is just based on instincts and remnants of ancient patterns of behaviour.
Pieces of me……
Suddenly a piece of me, falls into place, surprise, surprise.
Standing on the edge of life, I can see the picture unfold.
I auditioned for the part of myself yesterday.
I was supposed to do, what the instructor told me to do.
But I just couldn’t do it, it was too hard with all the lying and cheating and self-denial going on.
Then I retired - for a while, to a secluded place, behind a smile
that scarred my face, but no one was fooled and
finally I came clean as “The One and Only Living Mr. Jigsaw Puzzle Man”. (That’s me – in a nutshell. And I’m beginning to love every minut of it.)
Pieces of me – left on the trail. …… repeat chorus
Pick up the piece of today. Tomorrow is already gone….
Pick up the pieces - Pick up the pieces.
